Prof. Dr. Jean-Marc Ferry was born in 1946 near (Antony). After his habilitation thesis at the Sorbonne (Paris I), he conducted scientific research as a “Humboldt Fellow” (Alexander von Humboldt Foundation from Bonn) at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt/Main with Professor Jürgen Habermas (Department of Philosophy) (1986-1987). After four years as a CNRS researcher (Paris), he initially taught as a “Maître de Conférence” and since 1993 as a full professor at the University of Brussels in Philosophy and Political Science. In 2010, he was appointed as a guest professor at the Sorbonne (Paris IV), and since 2011 he has held the chair “Philosophy of Europe” as an “Associated Professor” at the Université de Nantes (France).
Prof. Jean-Marc Ferry is, among other things, Doctor Honoris Causa of the University of Lausanne (Switzerland), “Commander of the Order of Leopold”, “Grand Officer of the Order of Leopold II”, head of three publishing series in the field of Philosophy and Social Sciences, member of the “Spinelli Group – for a federal and post-national Europe” (the Spinelli Group gathers Jacques Delors, Joschka Fischer, Guy Verhofstadt, Daniel Cohn Bendit, Elie Barnavi, Amartya Sen, Ulrich Beck, Kalypso Nicolaïdis). His work has been praised twice by the “Institut de France”. He has published more than 20 books as well as about 250 articles and contributions, and has given more than 350 conferences.
