Jaap Korteweg, organic arable farmer and 9th generation farmer, is the founder of the Vegetarian Butcher. After attending the Secondary Agricultural School in Goes, he started working on the family farm in 1980 at the age of eighteen. In 1993, he successfully founded a union for Arable Farmers with the mission of establishing a new European agricultural policy. He has shaped various innovations within organic farming, such as the robot-controlled tractor. Furthermore, he is involved in sustainable energy and nature development.
Since 2007, he has been working with an enthusiastic team on the plant-based Revolution that aims to transform the global food supply. His ambition is to become the largest butcher in the world. The grand ideal is to let people experience that they don’t have to miss anything when they choose ‘the new meat’ from plants. The Vegetarian Butcher is currently active in 55 countries with 50,000 sales points.
After the sale of the Vegetarian Butcher to Unilever in 2018, he, along with partner Niko Koffeman, started Those Vegan Cowboys. With an enthusiastic team, they are working on the development of the stainless steel milk cow for the production of delicious dairy products that require no cow, goat, or sheep.
