At the age of 6, Ismail Aghzanay was labeled as “unmanageable” and was sent to Special Education for that reason. Now, more than 25 years later, he is a much sought-after speaker and moderator. He won the Teacher of the Year award in Rotterdam in 2018 and also received the national title for Teacher of the Year in 2021. His exceptional and extraordinary achievements did not go unnoticed by Their Majesties the King and Queen, who invited him to the outstanding achievers’ lunch. Ismail is also regularly approached by various TV programs (including Jinek, Beau, Talkshow M, and Op1) and newspapers (including AD, NRC, and de Volkskrant) to share his knowledge and expertise on topics such as education, youth, and social issues.
Furthermore, Ismail, together with his colleagues from Meesters Met Dromen – Yasin Yaylali and Emin Kececi – wrote the book ‘The Secret of the Teacher’ and contributed to the children’s book ‘Hallo Allemaal’.
The fact that Ismail has experienced inequality of opportunity, poverty, and low expectations in various ways makes him adept at bridging theory and practice. This, above all, makes Ismail an especially interesting (keynote) speaker and moderator to book.

Ismail has gone through all educational sectors as a pupil and student – (S)BO, (V)MBO and HBO – after which he provided lessons as a teacher in primary education and (V)MBO. In addition, Ismail has been a team leader of a VMBO school and has provided various lessons for students at HBO. In other words, he has developed the necessary knowledge and expertise on educational issues at all levels.
The culture within a (school) culture determines, among other things, the degree of safety within the team, well-being, (educational) quality, the promotion or not of opportunity equality, and the retention or turnover of staff. In other words, this issue makes or breaks an organisation.
