Giovanni van Bronkhorst, former professional footballer, won various awards such as the Champions League, Supercopa, FA Cup, and several national championships. Giovanni began his professional career at Feyenoord, where he was immediately loaned to RKC Waalwijk. After returning to Feyenoord, he won the KNVB Cup and left for Glasgow Rangers in the summer of 1998. His successes at Glasgow Rangers allowed him to move to Arsenal FC. In 2003/2004, he transferred to FC Barcelona under coach Frank Rijkaard. In Barcelona, he was highly valued for combining both defensive and offensive football. With Barcelona, he won the Spanish title twice, the Supercopa twice, and the Champions League.
In 2007, he returned to his first love, Feyenoord. Between 1996 and 2010, he represented the Dutch national team 106 times and scored 6 goals. His goal against Uruguay during the semi-final of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa was awarded the title of ‘most beautiful goal of that World Cup.’ After the World Cup, Giovanni retired from professional football and, together with Bert van Marwijk, was appointed a knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau.
Since 2015, Giovanni van Bronkhorst has been the head coach of Feyenoord; in his first year, he immediately won the KNVB Cup, and a year later, he became champion of the Eredivisie.
