Florence Verzelen is currently the Director of the Purchasing Performance Plan at GDF SUEZ and is responsible for a goal of reducing the group’s external costs by €2 billion in 2 years. She is also a member of the board of directors of PSA. Florence Verzelen began her career in investment banking in New York. She then worked at the European Commission where she handled trade relations with China, particularly regarding the end of textile quotas. She was then in charge of the abuse of position case against Microsoft, which resulted in the largest fine from the European Commission in the 2000s. In 2007, she joined the cabinet of the Minister for European Affairs, Jean-Pierre Jouyet, to oversee negotiations on climate and European energy issues. At the end of 2008, she joined GDF SUEZ to manage acquisitions in the exploration-production sector. In mid-2010, she took the helm of GDF SUEZ’s subsidiary in Qatar and became the first woman to serve as CEO in the energy sector in the country. Florence is a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum, a Young Leader of the Franco-American Foundation, and was named “Woman of the Year” by La Tribune in 2012.
