Personal leadership, dealing with disappointments, listening to yourself, and working purposefully, flexibly, and sustainably: Fien Vermeulen takes you on an expedition.
Fien Vermeulen is a presenter and claims to live in the most beautiful city in the Netherlands: Amersfoort. She graduated cum laude from the University of Amsterdam in Dutch Studies, specializing in rhetoric and discourse analysis. As a presenter, Fien still draws on that foundation of persuasion and research every day. Ever since she saw the youth news program as a little girl, she knew she wanted to provide that window: informing people about what is happening in the world, and doing so in a fun way.
Since 2015, you can hear Fien as a newsreader on Qmusic. In the programs Mattie & Wietze, Domien and Mattie, Fien & Igmar, she discussed current events and more in her own unique way. Currently, she reads the news every Monday through Thursday between 10:00 and 15:00. As a radio personality, Fien has been nominated twice for the Silver Star Female.
Fien is featured in the 20th season of Expeditie Robinson on RTL4. She also provides viewing tips on TV as a film and series expert, regularly joining as a panel member on RTL Late Night with Twan Huys. For the AD, she took viewers through which films and series they must see. Additionally, Fien is a popular guest on various TV programs such as ‘De slimste mens’, ‘Code van Coppens’, and ‘Lego Masters’.
Furthermore, Fien presents various online programs. In the Ochtendshow To Go, Fien ensured an up-to-date start to the day. At LINDA.TV, Fien shares her battle against lymphoma in Kankermonologen. For KWD, she presented the Lampionnen Actie as an ambassador alongside John Williams. She also presents various corporate videos for a range of companies and charitable organizations.
For the Wendy Online platform by Wendy van Dijk, Fien writes a monthly blog. In the autumn of 2020, her first book was published: ‘It’s Raining Sunshine’. A personal story about cancer. It is not just another book by a cancer survivor. It is the story of Fien, who came so close to death that life afterward became quite complicated. She discovered that a life-threatening illness is never faced alone and that it never really goes away – even when you are declared healthy again. With humor and depth, and completely unabashed, Fien writes in this book about her life as a young woman. Love, career, friendship, sex, and self-discovery are all part of it. Just like – in her case – a bald head, using a basin for bathroom needs, and suddenly being a public figure. It is a story about fighting, falling, getting up, and moving on. Not because you are a hero, but simply because life is worth it.
In her keynote ‘How Do I Become a Survivor?’, Fien shows that surviving is actually the foundation of living, and that every employee deserves to pay attention to this. Fien wakes people up and inevitably makes the audience laugh – and cry. Her story about cancer, unlikely ambition, self-knowledge, and being stranded on a deserted island leads to important insights.
