Ernie Monschein is a food industry professional with more than 30 years’ experience as an educator and consultant. Throughout his career Ernie’s focus has been on designing cohesive management and educational systems that meet the needs of all organizational levels of food retail. His specialties include leadership development, food industry trend analysis, needs assessment and instructional design, family supermarket succession, retail management and employee engagement.
Previously, Ernie was Senior Director of Education and Human Resource Development at the Food Marketing Institute (FMI) in Washington, DC where he brought a practical food industry perspective to association events, executive development programs and the design of industry training. He also served as Executive Director of FMI’s Independent Operator Division providing education services, networking and advocacy for FMI’s family owned members. He also worked for more than 15 years in food retail with Food Lion, First National Supermarkets, and the Finast and Edwards divisions of Ahold USA.
Ernie is an accomplished speaker, facilitator and author/editor of numerous publications including: The Food Industry Guide to Internet Recruiting and Language of the Food Industry- Glossary of Supermarket Terms. He is also a Telly award winning producer of training videos including: What You Don’t Know Can Hurt You – A Guide to Antitrust Compliance for the Supermarket Industry and was the creator of FMI’s Cashier Placement Instrument. He holds a BS in History and Social Science and MS in Education from Central Connecticut State University.
