'Andy van den Dobbelsteen focuses on the sustainability of the built environment and the greening of organizations, particularly on CO2 neutrality (including energy transition), climate adaptation, circularity, and biodiversity.'
As a professor, Andy van den Dobbelsteen focuses on the sustainability of the built environment, particularly on CO2 neutrality (including energy transition and sustainable energy systems), climate adaptation, circularity, and biodiversity. For his work, he was knighted in the Order of the Dutch Lion in 2018.
For five years, he was also the sustainability manager at TU Delft, earning him the title of Dutch CSR Manager of the Year in 2023. Andy is therefore well-versed in greening organizations, in all aspects of operations, knowledge transfer, innovation, and social engagement.
In his long career at TU Delft, he has led and executed many research and educational projects. Andy’s MOOC (‘massive open online course’) Zero-Energy Design was voted the best online course on EdX worldwide in 2020.
He has published and presented extensively both within and outside the academic world, on both national and international levels. In 2019, he received the Academic Society Award from KIVI for his public communication of scientific knowledge.
Andy communicates in an original and creative way. He made two short films (Energy Slaves and The Climate Warriors, available on YouTube), both of which won a Golden Heron.
But more than these accolades, Andy aims to convince as many people as possible of a sustainable way of living, working, building, and planning, relying on the use of one’s own potentials, where utilizing principles from nature offers a great opportunity.
