About Christiane Féral-Schuhl

Christiane Féral Schuhl holds a master’s degree from the University of Paris II and was admitted to the Paris Bar in 1981. She is a lawyer specialized in intellectual property law and economic law. She notably works in the fields of computer law, Internet law, media law, and telecommunications.

Between 1982 and 1985, she was a member of the Commission for External Relations.

In 1988, she co-founded with Bruno Grégoire Sainte Marie her own law firm, Feral-Schuhl/Sainte-Marie, which quickly became one of the most renowned in her field of activity.

From 1997 to 1999, she was Coordinator of the Commission for Emerging Markets and New Technologies. From 1994 to 1996, she was a Member of the Bar Council.

Between 2007 and 2009, Christiane Féral-Schuhl was a lecturer in electronic commerce law and contracts as part of the Master II “Public Internet Law” at the University of Paris 1 – Panthéon Sorbonne.

In 2011, the Guide des Experts recognized her as “Best of the Best” in information technology law, and “World Leading Women in Business Law” in 2012.

Finally, on January 1, 2012, Christiane Féral-Schuhl took office as Baton of the Paris Bar, a position to which she was elected on December 2, 2010.

Christiane Féral-Schuhl is also an accredited mediator with the Paris Mediation and Arbitration Center (CMAP), an arbitrator with the International Chamber of Commerce, a cyber arbitrator with WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization), an international legal expert at IFEJI (French Institute of International Legal Experts), and honorary president of the Board of Directors of ADIJ (Association of Legal Information Technology).

She is the author of two works: “Cyberlaw: Law Tested by the Internet” (Dalloz Praxis, 6th edition in 2011-2012, Fnac – Arthur Andersen Business Book Award for 2001 in the category ‘Management / Law / Finance’) and “The Company, Computing, and Law” (Nathan, 2nd ed. 1992).

Christiane Féral-Schuhl participates in numerous debates and conferences on issues related to new technologies. She is often sought to provide her perspective in interviews or consultations, particularly at the initiative of public authorities.
