About Pierre Abramovici

Pierre Abramovici was born in 1955 in Monaco. Self-taught, he did not pursue any university studies and became a journalist as a photo-reporter. He joined the Fotolib agency in 1974 and worked notably on the conflict in Northern Ireland, which he followed for several years. He was also in Beirut in 1975 at the beginning of the civil war.

After the closure of Fotolib, Pierre Abramovici worked as a freelance photographer. He has been published in numerous newspapers and magazines in France and abroad. In this capacity, he followed Pope John Paul II during several of his trips and was later led to investigate the activities of the Vatican, particularly Opus Dei, as well as the “Bulgarian connection” following the assassination attempt on the Pope on May 13, 1981.

Pierre Abramovici left photography to enter print journalism as a freelancer and notably investigated terrorism in Italy.

In 1982, he arrived at television and produced two magazines for the show “Le Nouveau Vendredi” on FR3 (on Northern Ireland and the far-right in France). In 1984, he joined TF1, conducting investigative reports for the news broadcasts and the editorial magazines “Infovision” and “Reportages” as well as for special programs of the editorial team. He primarily investigated international subjects and produced numerous magazines, notably on the war in Central America, the CIA, the White House, Action directe, the Brabant killers, Opus Dei and the Vatican, Iranian terrorism, arms trafficking… During the first Gulf War in 1991, he was responsible for numerous investigative programs on the military means involved and briefly served as editor-in-chief of the morning newspaper edition.

Pierre Abramovici left TF1 in 1993 to become an independent documentary filmmaker. That same year, he participated in the classification of the archives of the political police of Paraguay in Asuncion and became an expert between 2002 and 2004 for several investigating magistrates in France, Italy, and Spain in the context of proceedings launched against Argentine and Chilean torturers. In 1994, he was the first to speak about Operation Condor in France, of which he is one of the specialists, and its link with the archives of Paraguay.

In 2001, Pierre Abramovici was the editor-in-chief of a special program on France 3 dedicated to the September 11 attacks one month after the events.

A specialist on Monaco, Pierre Abramovici has been working on the archives of the principality for several years and is the author of numerous works, articles, and books on Monegasque history. He is credited with revelations about the collaborationist attitude of the principality during World War II.

He was a lecturer at the University of Paris VIII in 1983 and 1984 on photographic reporting, and Pierre Abramovici also taught investigative journalism at the Sciences Po School of Journalism from 2005 to 2008.
