SEVERINE CHERIX was born in 1975 in Switzerland. As a child, she wanted to become a flight attendant.
Working in Tourism, dreamy and passionate, she has always been fascinated by the idea of ‘elsewhere’. She
suffered from agoraphobia for 15 years of her life. She had to adapt her life to her emotional
disability. This strong-willed and persistent woman took on a significant challenge in 2010: to travel
alone in Asia for 1 month while still being agoraphobic. She managed to overcome her
phobia thanks to the numerous therapies and support she received, but also thanks to this solo trip
which would become the first of a long series. Since then, she has decided that she would pursue all her
dreams. At 40, having become an expert in agoraphobia as well as an exceptional travel organizer,
she is making up for lost time by helping those who suffer and continues to travel the world.
AGORAPHOBIA
It affects about 3% of the global population, primarily women. Destroying many lives, it is responsible for various other phobias and discomforts, such as social phobia, hypochondria, hyperventilation, stress, and insomnia.
In the city of Lausanne (Switzerland) alone, there are estimated to be over 4000 recorded agoraphobics (survey in
2012). More than 200,000 people are affected across the country and nearly 200 million people worldwide.
Very few structures exist to help those who suffer, and aside from treatment with antidepressants and a series of sessions with a psychologist, nothing is yet in place for this taboo phobia to be recognized, understood, and respected.
