Enthusiastic about Sustainability

With great enthusiasm, Reinier van den Berg engages everyone in his story. He can make complex physical and meteorological concepts understandable for the audience in a clear manner. Over the last ten years, he has specialized in climate change. In this context, he even organizes expeditions to the North Pole to witness global warming in action, for example, on the melting ice cap of Greenland. Naturally, during his clear presentations, he shows the beauty and vulnerability of the planet. Sustainability is the answer. A broad concept that Reinier can bring to life with clear, current examples. He likes to expand the triple P to 5xP, where the concepts of people, planet, profit are supplemented with passion and proud. Proud to be part of this sustainable organization. In fact, his story culminates in his favorite slogan: to be greener than others. Due to his tireless commitment to sustainability, Reinier has been listed in the sustainable top 100 of Trouw since 2012.

Tornado Chasing

In the field of weather, thunderstorms and tornadoes are Reinier’s specialties. He has organized tornado chases in America five times with some colleagues from Meteo Consult. In the Netherlands, whirlwinds occur 10 to 20 times a year, but severe tornadoes of American caliber are rare. In 1925, Borculo was partially destroyed by a severe tornado. In 1967, this happened to the towns of Chaam and Tricht. In America, devastating tornadoes occur hundreds of times annually. That is “the place to be” for witnessing the most powerful weather phenomenon on earth. Reinier has managed to get dangerously close to enormous tornadoes and has made breathtaking video recordings of this weather phenomenon, thereby increasing his knowledge.

Background

Reinier van den Berg is best known for his enthusiastic weather presentations at Meteo Consult, RTL, radio, and television. After his studies at Wageningen University, majoring in Environmental Science, he was closely involved in the founding of Meteo Consult in 1985, where he is still employed.

Ambassador

Reinier’s involvement with the planet and all that lives on it is also reflected in his various ambassadorships for organizations such as Trees for All, World Wildlife Fund, Light for the World. As an ambassador, he has visited projects in various African countries and the Amazon.
