Petra Roth was the Lord Mayor of Frankfurt am Main for seventeen years. As early as the early seventies, Roth was politically active and held various offices. From 1987 to 1995, she was a member of the Hessian State Parliament before being directly elected as Lord Mayor of Frankfurt three times between 1995 and 2012. From 1997 to 2011, she served as President of the German Association of Cities for a total of 9 years and was a member of the Committee of the Regions of the European Union.
Today, Petra Roth is the Chair of the Board of the Schloss Ettersburg Foundation – Shaping Demographic Change, and is involved in various scientific, cultural, and charitable institutions both domestically and abroad. She also holds, partly as Chair, a number of mandates on supervisory or advisory boards of significant economic enterprises. In addition, she engages in independent lecturing and consulting activities.
