About Merlijn Schoonenboom
Merlin Schoonenboom (1974) works as a journalist and author in Berlin. He was the Germany correspondent for the daily newspaper de Volkskrant in Berlin, and now regularly reports from the German capital for the weekly news magazine de Groene Amsterdammer. This year, he wrote the book “Why We Suddenly Love the Germans (and They Are Surprised by It)”. Also this year, he received the first German-Dutch Culture Prize for his work as a correspondent.
Schoonenboom gives lectures on significant developments in today’s Germany, with a particular focus on social issues and an international perspective. He skillfully combines journalistic analysis with his personal experiences as a Dutchman in Berlin and his background as a historian.
