He studied political science, German studies, and education in Mainz and Tübingen. Subsequently, he worked at the University of Mainz as a research associate and head of several research projects.
During this period, he spent extended research stays in Japan; earned his Ph.D. in political science in 1988 and was a Kennedy Fellow at Harvard University (Center for European Studies) USA.
In 1995/1996, he established the Center for Applied Policy Research, C.A.P., at the University of Munich. As a Senior Academic Councillor at the Geschwister-Scholl-Institute for Political Science at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, he completed his habilitation in 1997 in the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich.
Since 2003, Karl-Rudolf Korte has been a Professor of Political Science at the University of Duisburg-Essen, focusing on the political system of the Federal Republic of Germany, as well as Director of the “NRW School of Governance” and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences. He is the managing editor of the “Zeitschrift für Politikwissenschaft – Journal of Political Science“.
