Halina Reijn is an actress and writer. She has numerous standout roles to her name, both in theater (including La Voix Humaine, Rouw Siert Electra) and film (including Valkyrie, Zwartboek). Halina is affiliated with Toneelgroep Amsterdam. In 2005, she publishes her debut novel Prinsesje Nooitgenoeg.
Halina studies at the Toneelacademie Maastricht, after which she is invited by Theu Boermans to join the Theatercompagnie. There, she performs in several plays, including Hamlet, Lulu, and Shopping & Fucking, for which she receives the Colombina in 1998.
In 2003, Reijn moves to Toneelgroep Amsterdam, where she appears in various productions directed by Ivo van Hove, including Con Amore, The 3 Sisters, The Taming of the Shrew, Hedda Gabler, Rocco, the monologue La Voix Humaine, and Rouw Siert Electra. For the latter production, she is nominated for the coveted Theo d’Or.
In addition to all the experience she gains on stage, Halina also appears in various feature films, such as the Oscar-nominated film Zus & Zo by Paula van der Oest. She then appears in Ik Omhels Je Met Duizend Armen, directed by Willem van de Sande Bakhuyzen, Zwartboek by Paul Verhoeven, and Blind by Tamar van den Dop.
In 2007, Halina plays the role of Mabel Wisse Smit in the two-part television series De Prins en het Meisje, for which she receives a Golden Calf for Best Actress. In 2009, the Hollywood film Valkyrie, directed by Bryan Singer, premieres, in which she plays a role alongside Tom Cruise, among others. In 2010, she appears in Win/Win by Jaap van Heusden.
In addition to her theater, film, and television work, Halina writes her debut novel Prinsesje Nooitgenoeg in 2005 and has had a weekly column in the magazine VIVA for the past five years. In 2009, her columns are compiled into a diary titled Doen alsof ik iemand anders ben.
On television, she frequently appears as a guest at the table with Matthijs van Nieuwkerk in the popular TV program De Wereld Draait Door.
In the fall of 2010, the film De Eetclub, directed by Robert Jan Westdijk and based on the book by Saskia van Noort, is released, with Halina in one of the lead roles.
Under the direction of Ben Sombogaart, Halina plays the title role in the psychological thriller Isabelle, based on the book by Tessa de Loo, which will premiere in Dutch cinemas in 2011.
On stage, she will soon be seen with Toneelgroep Amsterdam in Hedda Gabler. Furthermore, Reijn is working on two film scripts: Prinsesje Nooitgenoeg (based on her eponymous novel) and Mara.
