François-Xavier Bellamy was born in 1985. After studying literature, he turned to philosophy. He joined the École Normale Supérieure in 2005 and passed the philosophy agrégation in 2008. After two stints in ministerial offices, he left his position to teach in secondary education. His first teaching positions took him to several schools in the Paris suburbs. He currently teaches in literary preparatory classes.
At the same time, since 2008, he has been the deputy mayor (non-partisan) of Versailles, responsible for youth, secondary and higher education, and employment.
He is the author of numerous publications in the press and regularly speaks at conferences for diverse audiences. In 2013, he created the Soirées de la Philo, a philosophy series for the general public, which takes place in Paris, at the Théâtre de l’Oeuvre, and later at the Théâtre Saint Georges.
In 2014, he published his first book, Les Déshérités, ou l’urgence de transmettre (Editions Plon); this essay attempts to identify the philosophical causes of the educational crisis and to open avenues for reestablishing the transmission of culture. Sold in over 50,000 copies and translated into several languages, Les Déshérités was released in paperback (Editions Flammarion) in 2016; it received the Aumale Prize from the Académie Française and the prize from the Association of Combat Writers.
