Daniel Narcisse is a French handball player born in Saint-Denis de La Réunion. He comes from the Joinville Sports handball club. He plays as a center back or left back. He is nicknamed ‘Air France’ in Germany due to his remarkable vertical leap.
His jump is such that he scores many goals if he can gain enough momentum, shooting over the opposing defense, even if they try to intervene. In particular, he was one of the key factors (the other being Michaël Guigou) in maintaining the score against Croatia in the first half of the 2009 World Cup final (in Croatia), scoring four consecutive goals. In that same final, he also scored the last goal for a final victory of France 24-19.
Daniel Narcisse’s achievements are extensive, both at the club level and with the national team. He is the French Champion in 2001, Winner of the League Cup in 2002, Vice-Champion of France in 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, and 2008. In 2008, he was also named the best left back of the championship. He is also the winner of the German Cup in 2011 and 2012, German Champion in 2010 and 2012, and Winner of the Club World Cup in 2011 with Kiel. He also won the Champions League in 2010 and 2012 with the German club.
With the French national team, he has also excelled in all global competitions. World Champion in 2001 and 2008, bronze medalist in 2005; Olympic Champion for the first time in 2008 in Beijing; European Champion in 2006 and 2010 and bronze medalist in 2008. He has over 220 caps and more than 700 goals scored.
In August 2012, with ‘the experts’, in London, he became Olympic Champion, thus contributing to further solidify the French Handball team’s legacy.
