Prof. Dr. Claudia Kemfert has been leading the Department of Energy, Transport, Environment at the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin) since April 2004 and is a Professor of Energy Economics and Sustainability at the Hertie School of Governance in Berlin. She is an economic expert in the fields of energy research and climate protection. Claudia Kemfert has served as an advisor to EU President José Manuel Barroso and is involved in advisory boards of various research institutions as well as federal and state ministries.
She is a multiple award-winning top researcher and a sought-after expert for politics and media. Most recently, she received the Urania Medal and the B.A.U.M. Environmental Award in the category of Science. In February 2013, her book “Kampf um Strom” was published, in which she describes the myths in the energy policy debate. In 2012, she was appointed by Norbert Röttgen (CDU) to his shadow cabinet as Minister of Energy in North Rhine-Westphalia and in 2013 by Thorsten Schäfer-Gümbel (SPD) as Energy Commissioner in Hesse.
