About Carina Hilders

Prof. Dr. Carina Hilders is one of the most influential healthcare executives in the Netherlands and a professor of Medical Management and Leadership at Erasmus University Rotterdam. As a gynaecologist and executive, she brings a rare combination of medical expertise, strategic insight, and people-oriented leadership.

With more than twelve years of experience as chair of the Board of Directors — at Reinier de Graaf Hospital and UMC Utrecht — she is known for her vision of compassionate leadership and her belief that healthcare remains future-proof only when the professional is central. She leads organisations based on collaboration, trust, and innovative strength.

Carina is nationally active in the field of healthcare policy, quality, and efficiency. She was, among other things, chair of the project group Medical Specialist 2015, involved in programmes to reduce waste in healthcare, and initiator of the Coalition Resilient Healthcare. Additionally, she holds supervisory roles at, among others, Radboudumc and Sanquin.

Her career began in fertility preservation for young women with cancer, from which the national network NNF emerged. She is also an important voice in the lifecourse approach to women’s health, with attention to Promising Start and reducing social inequality in maternity care.
