Leadership at the Edge: From Individual to Collective Impact

Julie Brown

Managing director of Polar Circles

My mission is to inspire leaders to explore their untapped potential and embrace the adventure of a pioneer spirit. I want to encourage them to explore, to consistently evolve, and to adapt within their fields of expertise as leaders. Ultimately, I want to shine a light toward success and enable them to exceed their self-imposed limitations.

Too often we encounter potentially outstanding leaders who don’t see their own dormant possibilities. They are often exceptionally strong individual performers — with clear points of view, deep expertise, and high accountability.

When complexity increases and decisions carry more weight, leadership shifts. Not because expertise disappears, but because relying on individual leaders can become a bottleneck, speed narrows the field of view, and responsibility concentrates on too few shoulders. Alone, they are more apt to stumble. When connected to strong peers and teammates, in an environment that fosters growth, their potential successes are limitless.

Leaders today don’t need to be über-sportive & technically-skilled polar explorers, for example. They do however require a mindset that embraces the unpredictable adventures that accompany change.

Leadership at the Edge is a concept designed for audiences looking for a sustainable edge … together.

Discover Your Pivot: Change Management = Reality Management
Some audiences are composed of individuals looking for pure inspiration when change – especially sudden change – leaves them feeling out of control. In May 2025, my book Discover Your Pivot was launched and its accompanying keynotes were immediately filled with people in search of change management strategies. These same people depart with a new perspective that recognises the universal need for “reality” management, as “change” is simply a constant.

Story-telling and anecdotes allow me to connect with my audience in an authentic and pragmatic manner. People want to hear what works – and what doesn’t – during the path toward ambitious goal achievement. My favourite audiences are diverse in scope of generations, cultures, and genders.

There is a universal need for inspiration, for useful tips on self-leadership, and for encouragement to embark on challenging professional (and personal) journeys despite hardships or seemingly tragic circumstances. Resilience is a skill that can indeed be learned and sharpened over time.

Energy, especially positive energy, is a valuable commodity and it gives me deep satisfaction to share it with people looking to get out there and get things done.
