Tommaso Wayne Bertolotti was born in 1987 in Pavia (Italy) to an Italian father and a Franco-American mother. From a young age, he began traveling around the world with his family, which developed in him a passion for interacting with other cultures and customs. A brilliant student in high school, he took a particular interest in philosophy and Biblical studies: the first passion led him to university, where he began his journey in philosophy in 2005. He obtained his bachelor's degree in 2008 with an initial thesis on the cognitive and pragmatic analysis of gossip, and then in 2010 his studies led him to cognitive science of religion. During his PhD at the University of Pavia, under the supervision of Lorenzo Magnani, he explored a number of study subjects ranging from the philosophy of science to that of religion, dedicating a significant portion of his time to deepening his work on gossip, connecting it to social issues such as the use of social networks and cyberbullying. His articles did not go unnoticed; in 2012 he was invited to a working group at the European Commission's research center (JRC) in Ispra, Italy. Following this, he began his collaboration with Microsoft, for whom he was invited to numerous conferences on online safety in Paris and Brussels in the following years. His research has resulted in many peer-reviewed articles and in the book Patterns of Rationality: Recurring Inferences in Science, Social Cognition and Religious Thinking (Springer, 2015). Currently, he is completing his post-doc at the University of Pavia, and he is pursuing teaching and research projects at ParisTech, particularly on autonomous vehicles and the respect for private data in the connected home.
