Dr. Atkinson joined the Groupe d’Economie Mondiale in 2005 after nearly 15 years as a senior official at the Organisation for Co-operation and Development (OECD).
From 2001-2004 he served as Deputy Director of the Directorate for Science, Technology and Industry where he had responsibility for the Structural Policy Branch and, among other activities, oversaw the preparation of the 2nd Conference of Ministers Responsible for SMEs held in Istanbul in June 2004. Prior to that he worked on macroeconomic issues in a number of posts in the OECD's Economics Department, including that of editor of OECD Economic Outlook for eight years.
Outside the OECD during the 1980s, Dr. Atkinson worked on macroeconomic policies and structural reform issues at the New Zealand Treasury in Wellington and the Institute of International Finance in Washington D.C. He obtained his undergraduate degree at Williams College in Massachusetts and received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Cambridge (UK).
