Sjoerd Marijne had a dream to win a medal at the Tokyo Olympics with the Indian women’s hockey team. He did not win a medal but achieved something much greater, namely the hearts of all Indians, inspiring 1.3 billion people. They witnessed a team that did not win a match at the Rio Olympics and now finished 4th, making history for India.<\/p>\n
He worked with players he did not understand and, in a completely different culture without his family, created a high-performance culture where each individual was pushed to reach their potential.<\/p>\n
In his lecture, Sjoerd Marijne shares, from his passion and drive, how he approached this process and how to get the best out of your environment and create a culture within your company that increases the chances of success.<\/p>\n
The team and Sjoerd personally faced many setbacks during those 4.5 years, but those setbacks made them stronger and ultimately formed a team that never gives up and where the players were empowered.<\/p>\n
Sjoerd Marijne has been coaching at the highest level for 20 years, both nationally and internationally. He became world champion with the Dutch girls’ under-21 team and began his journey in India in 2017, where he first started coaching the women. After 6 months, he was transferred to the Indian men’s team for 9 months and then returned to the women, whom he led to a 4th place finish at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. As Sjoerd is also an entrepreneur involved with several companies, he can pinpoint the similarities and where both worlds of sports and business can learn from each other.<\/p>\n
His story is not only about how to achieve your dream goal, but it is also a story about how to push yourself during difficult times, as we are all experiencing now. He spent a year and a half locked in the training center where he was not allowed outside, but every day he made the best of it because he had a dream and the willpower to realize that dream.<\/p>\n
