Robert Pfaller is an internationally renowned Austrian philosopher and author. After guest professorships in Chicago, Berlin, Zurich, and Strasbourg, he was a professor of philosophy and cultural studies at the University of Art and Industrial Design Linz as well as at the Technical University of Vienna. Since 2009, he has been teaching philosophy at the University of Applied Arts Vienna.<\/p>\n
Pfaller sees today\u2019s neoliberal culture \u2013 on the side of the masses \u2013 as characterized by avoidance of pleasure and asceticism. He perceives a loss in the present of the subjects’ ability to adequately perceive their interests \u2013 instead of the objects themselves, renunciation is desired: \u201cWe don\u2019t have a Porsche, and that\u2019s a good thing.\u201d<\/p>\n
In addition to other publications, Pfaller gained particular attention for his study ‘What is Worth Living For: Elements of Materialist Philosophy’ (2011).<\/p>\n
