Dominique Wolton is the director of the Institute of Communication Sciences at CNRS. He founded and has been directing the CNRS journal Herm\u00e8s since 1988. He is a member of the board of directors of the France T\u00e9l\u00e9visions group and president of the advertising ethics council of the Professional Advertising Regulatory Authority (ARPP).<\/p>\n
He is the author of about thirty books translated into twenty languages, including: Informer n\u2019est pas communiquer, L\u2019Autre Mondialisation, Internet, et apr\u00e8s ?, Demain la francophonie, Penser la communication, Naissance de l\u2019Europe d\u00e9mocratique, \u00c9loge du grand public.<\/p>\n
In 35 years, Dominique Wolton has worked on 10 research areas that illuminate the future. The individual and the couple; work; media; public space and political communication; information and journalism; the Internet; Europe; cultural diversity and globalization; the relationships between science, technology, and society; knowledge and communication. All these themes, at the heart of contemporary debates, he has often approached against the current of prevailing ideas, demonstrating his insight and intuition. His research notably contributes to promoting an original conception of communication that prioritizes humanity and democracy over technology and economy. With this fundamental question: how to coexist peacefully with the other, today so close thanks to the multitude of technologies, yet still so distant?
