About Sigrid Stagl

Sigrid Stagl is an evolutionary/institutional economist who works in the interdisciplinary field of ecological economics. After studying at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration, she completed the graduate programme in the Economics department at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York and got the first PhD in Ecological Economics worldwide.

After working as Lecturer at her old Alma Mater in Vienna, she arrived in the UK in 2001. From April to July 2001 she visited the Department of Land Economy at the University of Cambridge. From August 2001 to August 2005 I worked as Lecturer in the School of Earth and Environment at the University of Leeds, started a research group in Ecological Economics and coordinated the new MA in Ecological Economics. In Sept 2005 she joined the Energy and Environment Programme at SPRU as Senior Fellow. Currently she is also Visiting Professor at the University of Vienna.

What keeps her busy these days are modelling of human behaviour and social institutions and sustainability appraisal. Current work includes the study of the adoption of environmental innovations, integrated appraisal of energy futures (in the South East of England and in Austria), the methodological foundations of multicriteria appraisal and the use agent-based modelling for explaining empirically observed behaviour-institutions relationships.

In the European Society for Ecological Economics (ESEE) she is currently active as Chair of the Conference Committee and Vice-President.

Next to this she tries to live lightly on this planet by cycling to work, eating local food and living in an eco-house.
