Pim Betist started his career with Heineken and Royal Dutch Shell after finishing his masters degree in finance. After three years of experience in the corporate world he decided to follow his entrepreneurial heart. He created Sellaband.com, the world’s first crowdfunding platform for music. In two years time his platform raised more than 3 million dollars for artists from approximately 50.000 music fans.

Pim Betist presented his concept on BBC World and CNN after SellaBand was featured on the cover of Financial Times. SellaBand inspired famous platforms like Kickstarter.com and hundreds of online businesses to integrate crowdfunding in their models. So far 1.5 billion dollars have been raised via crowdfunding on a global level.

Pim Betist left Sellaband in 2009 to use his experience to support others in creating crowdfunding business models. Some of his current clients include ABN AMRO Bank, ASN Bank and Dutch comedian Najib Amhali. Music still plays a central role in Betist’s life.

Under Pim Betist's watch, his new company, Africa Unsigned has invested €525,000 (about $725,000) in helping more than 40 artists and bands tour and release albums that represent what they deem the "New African Sound," such as Kenya's acoustic vocal group Sauti Sol. "I like to call them the East African Boyz II Men,"  Pim Betist says.

Internet entrepreneur

Arko van Brakel

"Recently I hosted the Sprout Challenger Day. Pim finished the day as key note speaker. He gave an extremely inspiring session, whereby the authenticity of him, his presentation and his company stood out to the audience. Pim uses his vision behind SellaBand.com and the amazing audio visual elements of the website to create an exceptional story and appealing presentation. What struck me most is that Pim doesn’t give you the feeling that you are listening to a business presentation. He makes you part of a success story in which the musicians play the most important and heroic roles."

He shows tenacity and passion whilst demonstrating an instinctive feel for commerce, understanding the expectations and needs of potential business partners. Thus combining an astute business sense with an infectious creativity, Pim ensures a stimulating and interactive experience."
