About Eric Broug

Eric Broug is considered to be the world leading expert in Islamic geometric design. He is the author of several popular books on this subject, which have been translated into Farsi, Turkish and French. He is also internationally active as an artist, designer and educator. Eric gives lectures and workshops around the world and is the founder of the School of Islamic Geometric Design. He speaks with passion and clarity about Islamic geometric design; he makes his subject accessible to everyone and uses beautiful images in all his presentations.Eric started his education in Islamic geometric design in Amsterdam. Very early on, he made a deal with himself to pursue it as a vocation, not as a hobby. For ten years, he practiced with a pair of compasses and a ruler to deconstruct and reconstruct patterns. In 2000, Eric moved to London where he attained his MA in the history of Islamic art and architecture at the prestigious School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS). He is self-taught and has developed a uniquely accessible way to teach, and talk about Islamic geometric design, which has enabled people all over the world to make geometric patterns with just a pair of compasses, a ruler and a pencil.Eric has dedicate his life to Islamic geometric design. His passion and expertise are clearly in evidence in his presentations. He is an accessible and engaging communicator and is able to wow his audience, using beautiful images and clear language.
