Former shore operations director of the “golden” ABN AMRO team (Volvo Ocean Race)
Tom Touber studied Naval Architecture at the University of Delft and Business Administration at the University of Twente. In the early 90’s after an international career at Océ van der Grinten, he joint Brunel International as Chief Operating Officer (COO) and executive board member. In 1997 he administered the introduction of Brunel to the Amsterdam Stock Exchange. This was the most successful introduction on the AEX that year. To obtain market awareness for Brunel a global sponsorship campaign was launched with the participation in the Volvo Ocean Race 1997-1998. Tom was responsible for the management of this campaign.
After 9 years Brunel International Tom became independent entrepreneur. His dream was to win the Volvo Ocean Race and to build a sustainable company in professional sailing. Together with the successful Dutch sailor Roy Heiner he founded Team Heiner as a professional top sport company. After 6 years of preparation the dream became reality with the victory of TEAM ABN AMRO in the Volvo Ocean Race 2005-2006.
Parallel to his top sport ambitions Tom founded an engineering company in Germany for the Automotive and Aerospace industry. This company grew from start-up to more than 600 employees and 11 branches and was sold to Randstad in 2006.
Since the start of 2007 Tom focused his activities to business again. As a consultant and management trainer he supports companies in achieving their goals. Tom works as a certified FranklinCovey trainer/coach and often takes his clients into the world of top sport. Major theme in his approach is management of growth. In 2008/2009 he managed the Delta Lloyd entry in the Volvo Ocean Race as CEO.
